Support Our Purchase of a Hearing Loop from Contacta!

At a national convention for hard of hearing and late-deafened adults, pianist Stu Nunnery discovered how liberating it was to have a hearing loop system when accompanying his colleague on the piano. He was able to make musical entrances on time even though the speaker had her back turned toward him and was standing at some distance away.

Amateur violist Wendy Cheng discovered the beauty of using a hearing loop when she performed a duet with a fellow violinist with hearing loss at our Association's 2015 conference. Both Stu and Wendy received a direct feed to their hearing devices-- a hearing aid and cochlear implant respectively--- that enabled them to focus on the music and not worry about hearing their colleague(s).

Pianist Angela Hill first experienced the benefits of a hearing loop when she participated in a handchime clinic for musicians with hearing loss in 2014. Not only was she able to clearly hear herself ringing the handchimes via her cochlear implant and the hearing loop, she was able to clearly hear others ringing their notes as well.

With so many exciting results, the Association of Adult Musicians with Hearing Loss (AAMHL) has decided to purchase a portable hearing loop from Contacta for its use in multiple venues for a variety of programs and events.

Toward that end, we are seeking your support to purchase Contacta's portable hearing loop which retails for $3500 and comes with 3 wireless microphones and a microphone stand. With this loop system, the meetups and in-person events that AAMHL is planning for 2018 will be completely hearing-accessible. Adult musicians with hearing loss will begin to learn how to perform in ensemble and chamber music situations with a much improved accommodation for their hearing experience.

We hope you will consider supporting this worthwhile endeavor for Giving Tuesday 2017!
